I love it when the Bible gives us an exact one-to-one correlation of our actions with God’s response. In Jeremiah 29:13, God is unequivocally clear about what creates His appearing in your life:
“When you look for me with all your heart, you will find me.” (NIV)

An interesting verse of Scripture that has always puzzled me was this description in the Gospel of John: “But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out.” (John 19:34) I’ve always wondered how the blood and water could have been separate, and where would the water would have come from. While I’m sure this verse has a spiritual meaning, there is an explanation for this eyewitness account that is grounded in medical fact.

I don’t think we, as humans, realize how creative our words are, whether toward the negative or the positive. I think this goes deeper than we would like. It’s a wonderful thing to know that voicing the Word of God is so creative, and that our prayers are effective, but will we realize that same power can be focused in the negative direction?

While preparing for the Word last Sunday I found this cool Scripture: “Or what I purpose, do I purpose according to the flesh, so that with me there will be yes, yes and no, no at the same time?” (II Corinthians 1:17) Sometimes it’s hard to find humor in the Scriptures, but Paul is pointing out how ridiculous our human nature is in a very funny way.

Look closely at what you fear. If you study it, you realize that fear itself is what affects you, not necessarily the thing you fear.
